Takanori Ogisu

Takanori Oguiss was a prominent Japanese Western-style painter of the Taishō and Shōwa eras and a recipient of the Order of Culture. Born in 1901 in Inazawa, Aichi Prefecture, he was deeply influenced by Yūzō Saeki and moved to Paris, where he developed his artistic career. Initially known for his bold, expressive brushwork, his style evolved after Saeki’s death, drawing inspiration from Maurice Utrillo. Over time, he established his own distinctive style, characterised by a strong yet serene touch. As a long-term resident of Paris, Oguiss captured the city's charm with a unique blend of warmth and structural solidity, earning admiration from both the Japanese and French art communities.
