Suiseki Ohashi

Suiseki Ohashi was a Japanese Nihonga painter renowned for his depictions of tigers. Active from the mid-Meiji to early Shōwa period, he gained international recognition, becoming the only Japanese artist to be awarded a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle in Paris. Ohashi’s tiger paintings were highly regarded for their lifelike precision and dynamic composition, blending traditional Japanese techniques with a keen observational approach. His works continue to be celebrated as masterful representations of animal painting in Japanese art history.
