Shoji Kamoda

Shōji Kamoda was a pioneering ceramic artist known for his modern and innovative approach to pottery. He continuously explored unconventional forms and designs, pushing the boundaries of traditional Japanese ceramics. Working primarily with "Mashiko ware", Kamoda experimented with various glazes such as lime glaze, ash glaze, and amber glaze, creating works that emphasised the raw beauty of clay. His creations broke away from the conventional notions of folk craft, earning widespread acclaim and inspiring generations of ceramic artists.
