Ryōhei Koisoの詳細情報

Ryōhei Koiso
Ryohei Koiso was one of the most prominent Western-style painters of the Shōwa era and a recipient of the Order of Culture, Japan’s highest artistic honor. Born in 1903 in Kobe, he developed an early passion for painting, influenced by artists such as Tadao Tanaka. He studied at the Tokyo University of the Arts, where his "Portrait of Miss T" won the Special Prize at the Imperial Academy Art Exhibition, marking his rise as a recognised painter. Later, he studied in Paris at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, immersing himself in European art, music, and dance. His refined compositions, often portraying women in elegant, classical settings, reflect his deep appreciation for European artistic traditions blended with a distinct Japanese sensibility.
