Jiro Yoshihara

Jirō Yoshihara was a pioneering Japanese artist and the founder of the avant-garde "Gutai Art Association" in 1954, where he served as its leader. He organised large-scale "Gutai" exhibitions, beginning with outdoor displays in Ashiya Park and later expanding to venues such as the Ohara Kaikan in Tokyo. His innovative approach to contemporary art attracted international recognition, particularly from Michel Tapié, a leading French art critic and proponent of Art "Informel".
