Izumi Kato

Izumi Kato is a painter and sculptor known for his distinctive depictions of primordial, anonymous life forms that appear to exist between the realms of fetuses, insects, children, plants, and humans. Born in 1969 in Shimane Prefecture, Kato graduated from Musashino Art University’s Department of Oil Painting in 1992. His work is characterised by organic forms, expressed through oil paintings and wooden sculptures. In recent years, he has expanded his practice to include soft vinyl sculptures and lithographs, continuously exploring new mediums and materials.
