Chiharu Shiota

Born in 1972, Osaka, Japan, in 2017, faced with the recurrence of her own illness, she confronted death, creating numerous works from the emotions and energy of this extreme state. Engaging with the fundamental human themes of life and death, she explores questions such as “What does it mean to live?” and “What is existence?” Her large-scale installations, intricately woven with thread, evoke the presence of memory embedded in places and objects. Alongside these installations, she presents works across various media, including sculpture, photography, and video, expanding her artistic expression.
