Andre Cottavoz
André Cottavoz was a French painter known for his richly textured and expressive impasto technique. Born in 1922 in Saint-Marcellin, southeastern France, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon. From the mid-1940s, he exhibited across France, earning numerous awards. At the age of 14, he attempted to replicate a Van Gogh landscape he saw in a Roman shop window, using a knife to apply paint—a moment that shaped his lifelong artistic approach.
